We are searching for an Electro-Optical Engineer position in the field of high energy laser beam control and seeks a cross-disciplinary designer and developer who can integrate optical, electronic, and signal/image processing software elements into an effective beam control apparatus for the delivery of the high energy laser beam on target. You will be joining a world-class beam control system (BCS) engineering organization that is applying rigorous engineering practice and advanced technologies to both strategic and tactical HEL systems. Lockheed Martin successfully delivered the BCS for the megawatt-class Airborne Laser system and recently demonstrated ATHENA, a strategically transportable HEL system with tactical range that successfully shot down five unmanned aerial systems at the White Sands Missile Range in August 2017.
You should be familiar with HEL systems and architectures in which multiple electro-optical elements are combined and integrated with software. You are someone who is able to come up to speed quickly as an individual contributor and we anticipate that you will emerge as a relied-upon technical leader with the ability to both self-direct and to lead small teams.
This work spans:
• Engagement sequence analysis and optimization
• Track algorithms
• Control loop analysis and design
• Data processing
• Fire control solution integration
You will apply and sustain engineering expertise across these domains to develop integrated beam control solutions. You will contribute across full product development cycle, from early-on trade studies through the design, integration, and test of prototypes and early production models of directed energy weapons. Your initial focus of effort will be on integration and test of a prototype we are currently developing for a strategic business opportunity, and the work will require travel to a remote test site in the Santa Cruz mountains for extended periods. The position offers learning and growth opportunities as your directed energy experience base and reputation grows at Lockheed Martin.
You would typically have aBachelors degree and 9 - 15 years of professional experience, a Masters and 7 - 13 years or a PhD and 4 - 10 years.
**Ability to travel to remote site in Santa Cruz, CA to support integration and test of laser prototypes.
