Engineer responsible for production support of single point diamond turning and optical fabrication processes. Provide technical guidance and support to optical operators to facilitate performance. Apply lean manufacturing techniques to reduce cost and increase yields. Investigate root cause of failures/defects and implement corrective action to support continuous improvement. Candidate will be responsible for the leading the non recurring effort (NRE) to establish production manufacturing/test plans, define processes, and to lead the teams activities for managing all tooling, manufacturing aids, and capital requirements and transition the NRE into production environment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to development and sustaining of manufacturing processes per customers' alignment and resolution requirements.
This position is located in Orlando, Florida and requires occasional domestic travel.
This position requires skills and/or experience in one or more categories of optics manufacturing engineering: optics fabrication or single point diamond turning
Candidates with optics fabrication or single point diamond turning specialization will have skills, experience and/or course work that includes the design, manufacturing and metrology of optical components. The required skills include knowledge of spherical and aspherical surface generating, grinding, polishing, edging, single point diamond turning, profilometry and interferometry.
Ability to troubleshoot problems and develop solutions. Ability to write and perform experiments, record and analyze data. Must have good communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment. Must fully embrace and demonstrate Full Spectrum Leadership. The candidate must have Microsoft Office software proficiency and strong analytical skills.
Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
Experience working in a production environment with represented and non-represented employees.
Candidates with optics fabrication or single point diamond turning specialization, with knowledge of optical freeform fabrication, slow tool and fast tool servo techniques and MagnetoRheological Finishing (MRF) processes are desired. Additional desired skills include the use advanced optical metrology, including the use of Computer Generated Holograms (CGH) and/or stitching interferometry for aspheric surface metrology, white light interferometry for non-contact surface profiling, and high precision contact profilometry.
Demonstrated small team leadership skills are desired.
Knowledge of relevant military and ISO optical specifications is also strongly desired.
